Assignment 3: Editing Photography
by Lucas Skaf
1. The process for this project started with photography. I took pictures of 3 different people to be able to edit them in Photoshop and demonstrate the different aesthetics. Below you can find the raw photos:

2. After the photos were reviewed, I got started with the project in Photoshop. I first created the project with the required 8.5x11 and 300dpi.
3. With the project ready for editing, I got started with Vaporwave. First, I inputted the first image and added a Black & White adjustment layer to get the values of the image. This process was repeated in every image for each aesthetic.
4. To give the Vaporwave aesthetic to the image I added Hue/Saturation, Color Balance and Red/Purple Gradient Map to give the vibrant and colorful look. In addition, to intensify the purple in the image, I added a purple highlight and purple shadow by creating Solid Colors adjustment layers and adding Saturation and Hard Light blend modes. Finally, to give a little texture, I added a texture layer that was created by me with the brush and using the Soft Light blend mode. All of this layers resulted in the image on the right.
5. To give the aesthetic of Post-Apocalyptic, I first, embedded the raw image and added the Black & White adjustment layer as mentioned in step 3. Consecutively, I added 2 texture layers that I created using different brushes to give a rust and grain look, while also adding Exclusion and Soft Light blend modes. To give a more green look, I also added the Solid Color adjustment layers with Darker Color and Overlay blend modes. Finally, to make it look with a more high contrast while de-saturated, I added Exposure, Brightness/Contrast and Hue/Saturation adjustment layers. All of this layers resulted in the image on the right.
6. To give the aesthetic of Rococo, I first, embedded the raw image and added the Black & White adjustment layer as mentioned in step 3. Consecutively, I added diverse Solid Color adjustment layers and blend modes with pastel colors to recreate the colors of Rococo paintings. After adding those layers, I added multiple adjustment layers. Those include: Vibrance, to recreate the vibrate colors used in Rococo paintings, Hue/Saturation, to also replicate a vibrate and a little saturating aesthetic and Pattern Fill, to give a little more texture to the shirt to help replicate the ornate textures. To support the latter, I also create multiple texture layers that I created using the brush and using Soft Light and Overlay blend modes. All of this layers resulted in the image on the right.
7. To give the aesthetic of Daguerreotype, I first, embedded the raw image and added the Black & White adjustment layer as mentioned in step 3. Consecutively, I added The Brightness/Contrast, Color Balance and Exposure to give the image the high contrast and soft light that this type of aesthetic has. In addition, to give the scratchy metal texture, I added two different texture layers that I created by using the brush and using Darken and Hard Light blend modes. The combination of all those layers result in the image in the right.
8. Finally, to give the aesthetic of Baroque, I first, embedded the raw image and added the Black & White adjustment layer as mentioned in step 3. Consecutively, I added multiple Solid Colors adjustment layers with local colors to give the aesthetic expected. In addition, some blending modes on them were added like: Hard Light, Overlay and Color. Besides the colors, I also added multiple adjustment layers to make the image more dramatic in lighting and a little more contrast. Those adjustment include the Photo Filter, Exposure, Hue/Saturation and Brightness/Contrast. In addition, I added a texture layer (with also the Shadows and Light Color Fills supporting) to give the impression of focused and dramatic light. Those layers combined resulted in the image in the right.
